We celebrate values-based micro businesses across every kind of growth ambition — from those built to expand quickly to those designed to stay purposefully small.

Why micro business matters

Celebrating micro business

Some grow fast. Some grow slowly. Some will always stay tiny.

We celebrate them all. There is no right or wrong growth ambition: each is equally valuable in our society.

For the Alliance, the distinction is values. We represent micro businesses that respect people and planet; being small alone is not the test.

The Alliance represents and celebrates values-based micro businesses, including start-ups. This is the case we make for their place in society and the economy.

Rooted in communities
The Alliance’s position is that thriving micro businesses bring character and diversity to cities, towns and villages — and must be part of conversations about local infrastructure and investment.

Creating opportunity
We celebrate the ways micro businesses can create supportive places to work, including for people who are neurodiverse, disabled or otherwise marginalised, and can enable people to build enterprises on their own terms.

Keeping value local
The Alliance makes the case that spending with micro businesses can circulate value within local communities, while many of those businesses also contribute directly to the places around them.

Building a more sustainable economy
We believe micro businesses can contribute to an economy that reduces environmental impact and protects natural resources — through local working, greener practice and products or services designed around change.
